Air Connectivity in KodermaKoderma doesn’t have its own airport. The nearest airport is Gaya airport located in Bodhgaya town of Gaya distric, Bihar. The Gaya airport is located some 100 kms from main city of Koderma. Both Gaya and Koderma cities are very well connected by rail as well as road. There are nearly 37 weekly trains between Koderma and Gaya stations and journey duration between these two stations is merely 1 hour and 15 minutes. In case of road, it takes minimum 2 hours via National Highway 31 and State Highway 70. As for connectivity of Gaya airport is concerned, then it is a domestic airport and is connected to all the important cities via indirect fights. From Gaya airport as of today there are very direct flights from any of the metropolitan cities. It is also important to bring to notice that Gaya airport though is domestic airport, but seasonal flights are available to and from some of the Buddhist countries like Sri lanka, Thailand and Myanmar. This is obviously to facilitate international Buddhist pilgrims who annually visit the holy Mahabodhi Temple located in BodhGaya town.

Roadways in KodermaNational Highway 31 is the only national highway that passes through this district. This national highway is considered as gateway to Northeast India and therefore is immensely important national highway. Before entering Northeast region, it passes through several important cities of Bihar and Jharkhand state – including of course Kodrama city. The names of other cities are as follows: Nawada, Bihar Sharif, Bakhtiarpur, Mokameh, Begusarai, Purnea, Dalkhola, Kishanganj, Bagdogra, Siliguri, Malbazar, Mainaguri, Dhupguri, Cooch Behar, Tufanganj, Kokrajhar, and Nalbari. Owing to this national highway’s sheer length (1,125 km) and its connectivity to so many important cities, it obviously holds immense importance for district’s economy.
Local Transportation in KodermaAuto rickshaw is the only local transportation available in the entire district. There are no city bus and taxi services serving in the district. However, decent numbers of private tempos/ mini tempos do operate in the interior of district. They actually compensate for absence of auto rickshaws, as most auto rickshaws are mainly concentrated in main city of Koderma and its few adjoining towns. But auto rickshaw, more or less, is the primary local transportation here. The district’s biggest auto rickshaw stand is obviously located outside Koderma railway station.
To sum it up, transportation facilities in Koderma can be termed as pretty reliable, if not efficient and competent. It is at least reliable in rail and road connectivity. But Koderma still has a long way to go to improve its local transportation, especially in deep interior where local transportation are completely nonexistent. Improvement in local transportation will also give much needed economic boost to the district. It is a well known fact that in whichever cities and regions local transportation improves, their economies subsequently witnesses noticeable improvement.
